Winter Exercise Myths DEBUNKED!
Winter Exercise Myths DEBUNKED!

Let’s separate from myths from facts today about winter exercising and health information.

One myth:  It’s not safe to exercise outside during the cold weather.

This is false and did you know that if you exercise outside in cold temps, you can actually burn more calories?

It’s true!

That’s because your body has to expend more energy (and thus, calories) to keep warm.

No more using “it’s too cold” as an excuse not to take that daily walk! Why miss out on a chance to torch more calories?

Myth 2: Dehydration only happens in the hot winter months.

FALSE! When exercising outdoors in the cold, you can also get dehydrated.

But, you are actually at risk for becoming dehydrated in the winter as you are in the summer. The dry air of winter can dehydrate you as well.

In fact, you may find that because of all the dry heat indoors, you actually may feel more thirsty in the colder months.

And Myth three:  Alcohol will keep you warm.

Nice try, but this one is false.  The thermal sensation you experience is actually  due to dilating blood vessels in your skin.

So before you rattle off a statement you heard somewhere, be sure to do a little research so you can stay safe and healthy this winter!
