The fact of the matter is that new year’s resolutions typically fail.
A survey I read said that fewer than ½ the resolutions set are still successful by June. Another survey claims an even lower success rate of 6%!
Gym memberships are said to spike right after the new year but by the third week of January visits start to decline and at around the 8-month mark, about ½ of those people have stopped going entirely.
The reason so many people keep observing this New Year’s rite is because they believe that their lives will be better if they make a transformation requiring some sacrifice.
But I think the reason they so often fail is because the resolutions they choose don’t match their true goal of greater happiness.
In other words, think about what you can do to make yourself happier and more at peace.
Perhaps it isn’t your wallet or waist line but your overall wellbeing.
With the right resolutions, like forgiving or having a regular gratitude practice, your well-being, and that of those you love, will surely rise.
