Distracted Eating
Distracted Eating

What is the scene when you have a meal?

Do you stand at the counter and eat?  DWE? Drive while eating?

Maybe you settle in on the couch in front of the tv or perhaps you sit at the table but scroll through Instagram.

If you do any of the above, know you are not giving your food a fair shot AND it could lead to weight gain.

Eating when we are distracted means that we are more likely to overeat. The reason being is that we are not paying attention to our hunger and our fullness levels. We’re paying more attention to what we are watching or doing, than when our body is saying its full.

You also aren’t enjoying the food as it is meant to be enjoyed- all the flavors, textures, sights, and smells.

So, I am challenging you….In order to reduce distracted eating, pick one meal or even snack a day to eat without TV, phone, book or while driving.

If you need to put your phone on do not disturb, and set a timer for 5 minutes so you can take your time and really enjoy your food. This exercise may feel strange and challenging at first, but over time you will appreciate being fully present while you eat your meals.
