Distracted Driving
Distracted Driving

April is Distracted Driving Awareness month and the facts are shocking.

A distraction- affected crash  can be caused by texting, using a cell phone, adjusting the radio, grooming, eating & drink and smoking.  Nine percent of fatal crashes, 15 percent of injury crashes, and 15 percent of all police-reported motor vehicle traffic crashes last year were reported as distracted driving

Every year distracted driving causes approximately 3000 deaths.

There are ways to avoid distracted driving that may save your life or someone else’s.

First and foremost, put your phone away while driving. You can even put it on Do Not Disturb with a message saying you are are driving and not answering calls or texts.

Another method I like to use is putting the phone in the trunk of my car. This is a guarantee I won’t reach for it to answer a call or text.

If you have a passenger in the car, ask them to manage your phone for you.

Be sure you prepare before you drive. Review maps, adjust your radio, eat, and make any phone calls needed before you drive.

Distracted driving is becoming an epidemic on our roadways. The use of electronics in vehicles is at an all-time high due to the majority of drivers owning smartphones, navigation devices, & video players,.
The summer months also see higher traffic and also a higher number of vehicle crashes.  Find what works for you to eliminate distracted driving so you can keep yourself and others safe on the road.
