Sunday is daylight savings time- we will spring ahead and enjoy more daylight going forward!
However, that one hour change may not just throw off your schedule but also your body’s internal clock. That hour of sleep that’s lost or gained can leave you feeling groggy and irritable. It can also be dangerous. Studies have found that both heart attacks and fatal car accidents increase after the spring shift to Daylight Saving Time
If you do have an issue with the change, consider preparing a few days earlier. So, beginning tonight, set your bedtime about 30 minutes before you normally hit the sack.
Going forward, stick to your schedule. Be consistent with eating, social, bed and exercise times during the transition. Exposing yourself to the bright light in the morning will also help you adjust.
And one last thing, put down coffee and caffeinated beverages four to six hours before bedtime. Alcohol also prohibits you from getting quality sleep, so avoid it late at night.
