Anxiety & the Vagus Nerve

Anxiety is a sign that your nervous system is on edge. The vagus nerve is the nerve that connects your gut and your brain and it’s what you need to tone in order to regulate your central nervous system.

It runs all the way from your tailbone through every major organ, thru your vocal cords all the way to your brain.

When you tone this nerve, you turn on your body’s rest and response nervous system, which helps you feel calmer and more controlled.

Getting out for a walk in silence is one scientifically proven way to do this.

Being in nature is a crucial way to tone your vagus nerve.

Doing it in silence offers opportunities for self reflection and daydreaming, which activates multiple parts of your brain.

It gives you time to turn down the inner noise and increase awareness of what matters most and gets you into the present moment.
